As the year winds down and we start reflecting on everything from tee times to travel memories, I’ve been spending a lot of time in one place most golfers avoid at all costs, my golf closet. You know the one. Overstuffed hangers, skorts from seasons past, polos we meant to love, and those impulse buys that somehow never made it out of the house.

The end of the year feels like the perfect moment to reset—not just mentally, but stylewise. Women’s golf fashion has evolved so much over the past few years, and our closets should reflect that shift toward a more confident, modern, and versatile style.

Edit with Intention

Before adding anything new, it’s time to clean house. I like to ask myself a few honest questions:

  • Does this still fit my body and my lifestyle?
  • Have I worn this in the past year?
  • Does it make me feel confident when I put it on?

If the answer is no, it’s probably time to let it go. Donate pieces that still have life, pass along favorites to friends, or repurpose performance fabrics for practice days. Making space is just as important as filling it.

Retire What No Longer Serves You

Golf fashion used to be about playing it safe, boxy silhouettes, predictable colors, and outfits that blended into the clubhouse. Thankfully, those days are behind us. If your closet is still holding onto pieces that feel dated, overly stiff, or uninspiring, consider this your permission slip to move on.

Today’s women’s golf brands are designing with intention, prioritizing fit, movement, and style that transitions seamlessly from the course to the rest of your day.

Make Room for Fun, Fresh Style

The new year is the perfect excuse to refresh your look with pieces that feel exciting again. I tend to lean towards:

  • Modern skorts and dresses with thoughtful lengths and flattering cuts
  • Elevated basics that mix and match effortlessly
  • Pops of color, unexpected textures, and playful prints
  • Layering pieces that work on cool mornings and stylish lunches afterward

Golf is supposed to be fun, and what we wear should reflect that energy.

Invest in Pieces You’ll Actually Wear

Rather than overbuying, I’m focusing on fewer, better pieces, items that earn their spot in rotation. This is a big girl move for me! When something fits beautifully, feels great all day, and makes you stand a little taller, that’s a win. Quality over clutter is the goal going into the new year.

Let’s talk about the hardest thing to part with: golf shoes. For some reason, we all hang onto them far longer than we should. Maybe they’ve walked 18-hole rounds we’ll never forget, survived rain, travel, and practice sessions, or just feel broken in perfectly. But if I’m being honest, worn-out golf shoes can quietly affect both comfort and performance.

If the soles are slick, the cushioning is flattened, or they’ve lost their structure, it’s probably time. Comfort matters, especially when you’re spending hours on your feet, and the right shoe can completely change how you feel walking the course.

Letting go of old pairs isn’t about being wasteful. Donate gently used shoes when possible, recycle what you can, and give yourself permission to upgrade. Today’s women’s golf shoes are lighter, more supportive, and honestly… way cuter than what we were wearing even a few years ago.

A fresh pair of shoes feels like a reset. New energy, better support, and one less excuse not to walk 18. If you’re cleaning out your golf closet, start from the ground up, your feet will thank you.

A Fresh Start for the Season Ahead

Cleaning out your golf closet isn’t about rules or restrictions, it’s about clarity. Letting go of what no longer serves you creates space for new styles, new brands, and new confidence on the course.

As we head into the new year, I’m excited to see where women’s golf fashion continues to go, and even more excited to show up feeling like myself when I get there.

Here’s to lighter closets, stronger style, and a whole lot of fun golf ahead.
