2024 is wrapping up, and at Fore-All.com, we are looking back at the biggest and most memorable moments in the sport this year. Join us as we count down the best moments in women’s golf in 2024:
No. 10 – Lilia Vu Wins Meijer LPGA Classic – Lilia Vu had an incredible 2023 season, establishing herself as arguably the best American women’s golfer in the world. 2024 wasn’t quite as easy, as she dealt with heavy injury issues early on. After a break from play, Vu came back to play at the Meijer LPGA Classic in Michigan, a tournament with a strong history of great winners. After forcing a playoff with Lexi Thompson and Grace Kim, Vu captured her fifth-career win, a great reintroduction to one of the best players on the LPGA Tour.
No. 9 – Moriya Jutanugarn Wins Portland Classic – Moriya Jutanugarn hasn’t necessarily been one of the biggest winners on the LPGA Tour in her career, but she was terrific in Portland this season, winning her second individual LPGA Tour event of her career. With her mom and sister on hand, the elder Jutanugarn sister was in the spotlight despite recent struggles in her game.
No. 8 – Nelly Korda at the Met Gala – The biggest off-course story of the season in the LPGA was Nelly Korda appearing on the red carpet at the iconic Met Gala. Korda was in the midst of one of the greatest runs in the history of golf, and was rubbing shoulders with some of the most famous celebrities in the world. The appearance immediately went viral in the golf community, proving the LPGA could make a major mainstream crossover, with its biggest star at the center of it all.
No. 7 – Patty Tavatanakit Wins in Her Home Country – It was a long three years between wins for Patty Tavatanakit, a major champion and the 2021 Rookie of the Year. But when she won on the LET in mid-February, it was clear she was gaining momentum. After high profile struggles, where she struggled to even make cuts, one of the most talented players in the world won her second-career LPGA Tour event in her home country of Thailand.
No. 6 – Amy Yang Wins Her First Major – Coming into 2024, Amy Yang was one of, if not the best, players without a major in the world of women’s golf. Finally, at the age of 35, she got her first at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, in dominant fashion. Yang came into the week with 12 top-five finishes in majors, but the momentum from the 2023 CME Group Tour Championship drove her to victory, one that really wasn’t in doubt at any point on Sunday.
