There were a lot of players who may not have had the 2023 they envisioned, but had great 2024 seasons in response. Here are the Fore-All picks for the best comeback players of 2024.
No. 5 – Sei Young Kim – Quietly, Sei Young Kim had her best season since she won LPGA Player of the Year in 2024. The Korean star had five top-10 finishes compared to just two in 2023. Of those top-10 finishes, four of them she finished in the top three. While she didn’t get a win on the season, she did finish in the top 10 of the CME Standings and was a solid force all season.
No. 4 – Lexi Thompson – While Lexi Thompson’s final full year on the LPGA Tour didn’t result in any wins, she did have a huge improvement from 2023. Last season, Thompson made just six cuts and had all three of her top-10 finishes in the last three events. Though 2024 didn’t have that much better stats on paper, four top-10 finishes and 12 made cuts, she showed a lot more consistency. Thompson had a great middle of the season that included a runner-up at the Meijer LPGA Classic and a top-10 at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.
No. 3 – Hannah Green – Hannah Green got back in the winner’s circle in 2023 with her first win since 2019, but she reached a new level in 2024. Green emerged as firmly one of the best players on the LPGA Tour, rising into the top five of the Rolex Rankings. Green won three tournaments, including a title defense at the JM Eagle LA Championship. In addition, Green finished runner-up to Nelly Korda at the Mizuho Americas Classic.
No. 2 – Nelly Korda – You can’t just call anything a comeback season. Just because a player was better than the previous year doesn’t make it a comeback. But seeing Nelly Korda struggle with injuries for two seasons in a row, winning just one tournament between the two years, the seven-win season certainly feels like a return to form. Korda was dominant in her Player of the Year winning season, not only returning to the strong form of her 2021 season, but easily surpassing it, playing better than she ever has.
No. 1 – Lydia Ko – Lydia Ko’s 2023 season was flat out disappointing, coming off a Player of the Year win in 2022, she only had two top-10 finishes, one of which came in her first event of the season. That just made her comeback in 2024 that much more satisfying. Ko won three LPGA Tour events, including a major at the AIG Women’s Open. She had eight top-10 finishes on the season and also won the Olympic Gold Medal. Ko also gained membership into the LPGA Hall of Fame, making the dream season that much sweeter.
