The 2025 U.S. Women’s Open makes its way to Erin Hills in the great state of Wisconsin in 2025, at a venue that is a far cry from the 2024 location, Lancaster Country Club.
Erin Hills is a big course in every sense of the word. It can be stretched to extremely long length, but also offers some generous landing areas for the standards of USGA Championships. This led to one of the lowest scoring U.S. Opens in history when Brooks Koepka won his first major championship in 2017.
A the 2017 U.S. Open, Justin Thomas set the record for lowest round to par in the history of the championship. Brooks Koepka tied the lowest overall score in a U.S. Open, shooting -16. 31 players were under par at the end of Sunday, a record for the championship, and Scottie Scheffler shot -1 to take the low amateur prize.
In addition to the one U.S. Open, Erin Hills has also hosted the 2008 U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links, the 2011 U.S. Amateur and the 2022 U.S. Mid-Amateur. At the 2008 U.S. Amateur Public Links, Tiffany Joh defeated Jennifer Song, with Lizette Salas earning medalist honors.
Erin Hills is a relatively new course, opened officially in 2006 about 30 miles from Milwaukee. Erin Hills has large, rolling hills, many bunkers, almost zero trees and rough that features high and thick fescue. Keeping the ball in play will likely be essential to a win.
In 2024, Yuka Saso from Japan won her second U.S. Women’s Open in a thriller at Lancaster Country Club, a course that was playing brutally difficult, especially on the greens. Expect much lower scores this time around.
Making a prediction is tough, judging off the wildly varied leaderboard in 2017, led by Koepka and Brian Harman.
PREDICTION: I’ll take Ruoning Yin to win her second major championship at Erin Hills. Yin should be able to keep it in play no problem, she hits over 75% of fairways, but she also has more power than her stats will tell you, especially when healthy. She is one of the stronger iron players on tour and is an above average putter. I think she has the correct tools to thrive at Erin Hills.
