Today, we look at a player that was probably in for a huge breakout season in 2024, if not for a devastating preseason leg injury that kept her out early. Now, she has a chance to go out in 2025 and prove she is one of the best players on tour.
Angel Yin isn’t your typical preseason player of the year candidate. In her eight years on tour she only has one win, at the Buick LPGA Shanghai in 2023, but her talent has always been stronger than her results.
Yin has a strong, powerful swing that betrays her overall distance statistics. The ball looks different leaving Yin’s driver, though she has lost some ground on the field in the last couple seasons. She ranked No. 43 in average driving distance in 2024, which is still nothing to scoff at.
The real strength for Yin though is her putting. There is a strong case for Yin being the best putter in the world of women’s golf. Yin was No. 1 in strokes gained putting in 2023 and followed that up by finishing No. 3 in 2024. Her final performance of the year, a runner-up finish at the CME Group Tour Championship, showed off her flash on the greens, as she was hitting putts from everywhere.
The weakness with Yin is below average iron play, a part of her game that improved massively in 2024, but she was still No. 76 on the LPGA Tour in strokes gained approach. That will need to improve once again for her to contend for LPGA Player of the Year.
Yin does struggle at times to close golf tournaments, but her results over the last two years cannot be overlooked. In 38 starts since the beginning of 2023, Yin has finished in the top 10 13 times. She also finished top 25 in 2024 in total strokes gained on tour, despite questionable health for a portion of her season. The year before she finished No. 21 in strokes gained. Yin is a player who has drastically improved as of late and is living up to her talent level.
Buy stock in Angel Yin, she could have a massive season in 2025.
