The venue for the 2028 Solheim Cup, played again on American soil, has been announced, and it is a big one.
The Solheim Cup in 2028 will be played at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. Designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened in 1986, Valhalla has become a hot bed for big time golf events over its relatively short history.
Valhalla has held four PGA Championships on the men’s side, most recently this season when Xander Schauffele won his first of two majors. In addition to the four PGAs, it also has hosted a Ryder Cup and two Senior PGA Championships.
While the course received criticism for the low scores it produced at the 2024 PGA Championship, it is known as a strong match play venue and a great host of tournament golf.
LPGA Commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan said:
“Showcasing our extraordinary athletes at venues that have hosted the world’s largest and most prestigious golf tournaments and that are recognizable to fans around the world will continue to elevate the LPGA Tour and the Solheim Cup. Hosting the 2028 Solheim Cup at Valhalla Golf Club, with its rich tradition of competitive excellence, exemplifies this commitment.”
The 2024 Solheim Cup, being played in September, will take place at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club near Washington D.C. It then travels in 2026 to the Netherlands at Bernardus Golf.
