In her home country of Korea, Sei Young Kim has taken the first round lead at the BMW Ladies Championship.
Kim showed why at her best she is arguably the strongest player on the LPGA Tour, shooting a blazing -10 opening round at Pine Beach Golf Links.
Kim started solidly, with a birdie on the opening hole, followed by four pars. She hit fire once she got to hole six though, making eagle there followed by three straight birdies to go out in 30.
On the back nine, Kim continued her strong play with birdies on 11, 13, 15 and 18. Kim had an incredible three birdies on par threes for the round.
While this year’s addition is being played at a new course, Korean players have generally had good results on their home turf. Despite three consecutive winners from Australia/New Zealand, players from Korea won the first five playings of this tournament.
Kim is looking for her first win since 2020, when she won the LPGA Tour Player of the Year Award. A win would give her 13 for her career.
Kim leads countrywoman Hyo Joo Kim by one stroke and American Lindy Duncan by two.
