No. 6: The United States
There’s really no way around it, the United States doesn’t have its ideal team for this event. Losing Nelly Korda from the team because of injury didn’t help a team that already had a lot of questions, and the best match play performers in the country, Megan Khang and Allisen Corpuz, aren’t here either. There is still plenty to love about this team though.
First up is Angel Yin, who is ranked in the top 10 in the Rolex Rankings thanks to a hot start to the season. She had three consecutive top-10 finishes in majors very quietly and won earlier this year in Thailand. While she isn’t in the best recent form, she does rank No. 12 in the CME Standings and has shown herself to be a solid match play performer in the past.
Lauren Coughlin, coming off a terrific Solheim Cup, is next up, ranked No. 15 in the world. After a tremendous breakout year in 2024, she has come a bit back down to Earth in 2025. She still has five top-10 finishes though and found some solid form in August, despite not playing much since. With her match play skills, Coughlin feels like a player who needs to play well for Team USA to have a chance.
Yealimi Noh is in the midst of her best season of her career, and after her performance this week at the BMW Ladies Championship, is in good form. Of course she is no replacement for Nelly Korda, but this is a great chance to see what she can bring to this format, especially considering she is in line to make the Solheim Cup next season.
Finally, we have Lilia Vu, when at full health is easily the second best American golfer in the world, she has two major championships to prove it. Because of injuries though, this season has been a nightmare. Vu has missed 10/16 cuts and has just one top-10 finish, her near win in Arizona. Excluding Arkansas, where she had a good round, she’s been dreadful, with only two made cuts since April. Combined with her iffy match play performances in the past, it is tough to see Vu performing well in this event.
The United States has a solid roster this year, but there are so many ways it could be much better. This team isn’t out of it, but it has to perform at its absolute best to make a real run.
