Somi Lee, the young star from South Korea in her third year on Tour, took the lead at the Honda LPGA Thailand after a career low 61.
Lee wasted no time in getting started on a day where scores were low even for Siam Country Club, one of the easier courses on the LPGA Tour.
Lee birdied the first two holes thanks to some incredible short game magic, including a terrific chip on the opening hole, and a lengthy holed putt on two. She didn’t slow down from there, making birdies on holes four, five and six before a making a three putt par on the seventh hole, when she hit her long first putt off the green.
The recovery for Lee was quick though, as she proceeded to birdie eight, nine, 10 and 11 to get to -9 through 11 and certainly in range for the first sub-60 score on the LPGA Tour since Annika Sörenstam almost exactly 25 years ago.
The round stalled from there though, as Somi Lee made six pars on her last seven holes, though the only non-par was an eagle on the drivable par 4 15th, where she put an incredible tee shot to within 20 feet.
Lee was superb in the second round, hitting fairways consistently, giving herself great chances for birdie and executing on the greens. Every aspect of the game was firing on all cylinders.
Lee is no newcomer to early round dominance, ranking third in 2025 on the Tour in first round scoring and top 10 in second round average. She was No. 49 though in final round scoring, so now with a three-stroke lead, it is time to show that Lee can finish tournaments strong.
