Maja Stark has taken a one-stroke lead after the second round of The Maybank Championship after shooting a second -6 66 in a row.

Stark’s front nine was got off to a blazing start, going -3 on the first five holes with birdies on 1, 3 and 5. She slowed after that, going +1 on the next four holes to finish +2 on the opening nine.

She caught fire on the back though, with four birdies in a row on 10-13. From there she had pars the rest of the way in.

Putting was the key for Stark, which has been a common theme for the week. While she hit 11 fairways, and a relatively low 13 greens, she only had 25 putts. For the week so far she only has 52 putts.

Round one leader, Mao Saigo, struggled mightily in round two, giving her lead away with a +2 74. The tough round began right away, as Saigo bogeyed the first two holes of the day. After a nice bounce back, with birdies on five and eight, she once again faltered with bogeys on 15 and 17.

While Saigo was on fire with the putter in round one, with only 22, she had 32 in round two. Saigo actually hit the same amount of greens in each round, 14, but she just couldn’t convert on Friday.
