After one round at the PNC Championship, there’s a trio of men’s superstars at the top of the leaderboard, headlined by Tiger and Charlie Woods.
The annual event where a major or Players champion tees it up with a family member in a scramble format got off to a great start with Team Woods tied at the top with Bernhard Langer and his son Jason, along with Vijay Singh and his son Qass. Teams Langer and Singh have won the last two editions of the event.
Team Annika is the highest on the leaderboard of the women’s teams, sitting three strokes back at -10. It was Annika’s son Will though who once again stole the show from his 10-time major champion mom. Will was pouring in putts from range on a consistent basis Saturday.
Both tied for ninth four-strokes back from the lead are Team Korda and Team Stricker.
Team Korda got off to a ripping start with birdies on the first three holes, and a near one on the fourth after an almost hole-in-one from Nelly’s dad Petr. The -6 front nine is likely what they needed, but the struggles came on the back. With the exception of an incredible fairway wood shot from the sand for Nelly on the par 5 14, which set up an easy eagle, there was no fireworks for the Korda’s on the back.
Team Stricker was mostly in the same boat, as Steve and his daughter Izzy got off to a hot start with birdies on six of the first seven holes, but faltered on the back, with just three birdies.
The second and final round of the PNC Championship kicks off Sunday morning at 11:30 AM est.
