Ayaka Furue may just be the most consistent player on the LPGA Tour. That was proven in 2024, where she had her best season of her short professional career.
Furue was elite last season. She made 23/24 cuts and finished top 10 in half the events she played. She got her first major championship victory at the Evian Championship and was top five on the tour in scoring average. While she is far from one of the longest players on the tour, she is incredibly accurate, finishing No. 5 in driving accuracy and No. 7 in greens in regulation.
Furue gained 1.88 total strokes in 2024, good for No. 4 overall and up from 1.30 in 2023. This was thanks to a lethal combination of finishing No. 9 in strokes gained approach and No. 10 in strokes gained putting. If you hit good shots into the green, and convert with the flat stick, good scores are bound to follow.
Why is she placed down at No. 7? She needs to get in the winner’s circle more often. While she put herself in great positions all season, her round four stats are staggering. In scoring average she was top 10 on the tour in the first and second round but was down at No. 30 in the fourth round. In three full seasons on tour, Furue has just two total wins, which is low considering the quality of play she displays on a week-to-week basis.
Furue is just 24-years-old though, and has time to get better down the stretch of tournaments, her win at the Evian Championship will be a big help for experience, especially since she finished out the tournament strong with an eagle on the final hole.
