On the opening day of the Bruin Wave Invitational held at Valencia Country Club in Valencia California, No. 31 UCLA opened up a dominant lead as a team.

The first day of the tournament, which the Bruins co-host with Pepperdine, resulted in a 15-stroke lead over The University of Arizona. UCLA was led by the freshman duo of Francesca Fiorellini (-7) and Angela Liu (-3) who are at the top of the individual leaderboard as well.

Joining the two at the top are sophomore Jennifer Seo (+5) and senior Natalie Vo (+3). The non counting score for the Bruins comes from junior Meghan Royal (+10).

The Bruins have reloaded well after losing superstar Zoe Campos and honorable mention all-Pac 12 honoree Kate Villegas from their 2024 national runner-up team. The two freshmen should give them a good chance to compete in the much weaker Big 10 conference, where the likely biggest competition will be fellow former Pac 12 teams USC and Oregon, along with Northwestern.

No. 13 Arizona is in second place, 15 strokes behind at +13 as a team while Baylor is in third at +22. Arizona has the only other individual under par, as sophomore Charlotte Back sits at -1 through the first two rounds.

The final round of the Bruin Wave Invitational will be played this morning, February 25.
