The most important quality a golfer can have is confidence. In 2024, the LPGA saw the birth of a new star, Lauren Coughlin, who found her confidence and momentum and rode it to the best season of her career. In 2025, that story may belong to A Lim Kim.
Kim, who has won two out of her last five LPGA starts, has once again taken the early lead in Singapore, shooting -4 to lead by one stroke. Kim had five birdies with only one bogey, coming late in the round on the par five 16th hole. Kim was pretty flawless other than that one hiccup though. As usual, her ball striking really was shown off, hitting 13 fairways and 15 greens.
Joining her in the top two is Charley Hull, looking for her first LPGA victory since 2022. Hull shot -3 in the first round despite hitting only eight fairways. Her approach game was strong though, despite not being great off the tee, her long hitting left short clubs in her hands, and she took advantage hitting 14 greens.
Minjee Lee is just two strokes back in a tie for third with Hye-Jin Choi, Gaby Lopez and Ruoning Yin. Lee, also looking to snap a long winless streak, had two bogeys on the front nine, but had four birdies for the round and had pars on her last eight holes. Yin similarly had some tough holes, with three bogeys in a seven hole span, but recovered nicely with a birdie on 18.
The second round from Singapore kicks off again tonight on Golf Channel.
