Stanford superstar Megha Ganne cruised through the first round of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur.
Playing at Champions Retreat Golf Club, Stanford junior Megha Ganne set a course and tournament record in the first round of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur. Ganne shot a -9 63, taking a two-stroke lead over defending champion Lottie Woad.
Ganne made seven birdies and one eagle while not having a single score over par. This set the record for the best score in ANWA history as well as setting the course record on Champions Retreat. Lottie Woad, the overwhelming favorite coming into the event, had eight birdies with one bogey, leading to a -7 score.
Ganne was even surprised by her round, saying: “I had a feeling I was gonna go low today, but not this low, so I’m just trying to enjoy it.”
Ganne should be a familiar name to LPGA Tour fans, as she was a major player in the 2021 U.S. Women’s Open. Though she had a tough final round, Ganne was tied for third entering the final round.
Ganne also has experience at Augusta National, where she was a four-time participant in the Drive, Chip and Putt and finished runner-up two times.
Women’s golf fans should be excited seeing one of the biggest names in amateur golf at the top of the leaderboard. Stay tuned to Fore-All.com for more coverage of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur.
