When we look at the final European Solheim Cup team later this Summer, we may look at this as the week that built the team.
On the Ladies European Tour, Bronte Law (above) won the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco. It was Law’s third LET win in her short career. Law, from England, played on the 2019 Solheim Cup team, and though she only went 1-1-2, she won her essential singles match on Sunday against Ally Ewing. Law, also a one-time LPGA Tour winner, was in heavy contention for the 2023 Solheim Cup team.
On the LPGA Tour, Albane Valenzuela posted a career best second-place finish at the Honda LPGA Classic. With 12 members per team, Valenzuela felt very much like the 13th woman on the European Solheim Cup team in 2023. Valenzuela, from Switzerland, had three top-10 finishes in 2023 and is only 26-years-old. This runner-up could propel her to another strong season.
With Europe having only a couple spots seemingly up for grabs, finishes like these could prove essential for the fringe Solheim Cup members like Law and Valenzuela. Law is now second in the LET rankings, and the top ranking European native. The top two European natives in those rankings make the Solheim Cup.
