24-year-old Anne Chen took the lead Friday with an incredible -8 64 at Indian Wells Golf Resort to get to -12 for the tournament.
Chen started fast with birdies on the first three holes of the round after teeing off on the back nine. After three more birdies coming in, she sat at -6 for the round heading over to the other side. She continued rolling with birdies on holes three, four and five before her lone dropped shot of the day on the par 4 6th hole.
Accuracy coming into greens was the name of the game for the former Duke standout, who hit 17 greens on the day, bringing her total to 30/36 for the week. She’s also been consistent with the putter, needing just 55 strokes with the flat stick so far.
Behind her on the crowded leaderboard is a stacked group of stars led by Yana Wilson, who shot -7 for the round with birdies on five of her last seven holes. She sits at -11 for the week thus far.
Alice Hodges followed up her fantastic opening round with a solid -4 68, she is also at -11 and tied for second. Sophia Schubert, riding a hot putter, got off to a bit of a tough start with a bogey on the first hole and an even par first nine, but rallied on the back nine to get to -11 for the week.
The third round of The Epson Tour Championship continues Saturday.
