The No. 20 Arizona State Sun Devils won the Darius Rucker Invitational by one stroke over No. 12 Northwestern, shooting +3 as a team.
The Sun Devils were one stroke behind the Wildcats coming into the final round, but were led by Beth Coulter (-1) and Patience Rhodes (E) on Tuesday to take back over the lead. Star Grace Summerhays, who shot seven strokes worse than her first two rounds at +4, but she still finished in the top 10 individually.
Northwestern finished at +4, while Auburn was +5, South Carolina was +6 and Arkansas was +7. In a field loaded with the best teams in the country, those top programs showed up.
This is Arizona State’s first win at the Darius Rucker Invitational. It is also their first win in a large field invitational, one that comes at a great time against great competition.
The Sun Devils are next in competition at the Dr. Donnis Invitational played in Hawaii next week.
