Arpichaya Yubol, the talented 23-year-old from Thailand, leads after one round at the 2025 Buick LPGA Shanghai.
Yubol got off to a quick start with three birdies to begin her opening round. She added another on the sixth hole to turn in at -4. Interestingly, Yubol didn’t have a birdie on either of the front nine par fives.
It was much of the same on the back, consistent, accurate hitting from the fairways and a solid putter brought four more birdies without a dropped shot. For the day, Yubol hit 17 greens and had just 28 putts.
Yubol is still in search of her first LPGA Tour victory, but has shown some flashes, including a great start to her tournament in Portland this year and a top 10 finish in Mexico. In 2024, she actually notched four top-10 finishes, including at the U.S. Women’s Open and here in Shanghai.
Yubol has a stacked leaderboard chasing her, including the No. 1 and No. 3 players in the world Jeeno Thitikul and Minjee Lee, who trail by one stroke at -7. Also sitting in a tie for second are rookies Jenny Bae and Ina Yoon, plus Jenny Shin.
The leaderboard doesn’t get easier to deal with from there, as Solheim Cup stars Jennifer Kupcho and Sarah Schmelzel are lurking at -6.
The second round of the Buick LPGA Shanghai continues Thursday night.
