There has been five winners of the International Crown in its five playings, that continued this week as Australia won the 2025 competition.
Australia was playing from behind seemingly all week, but it makes sense they kept pulling magic out of their hats. No team cares more about the International Crown or plays with more chemistry than the Australians. It is how they have overachieved each of the last two seasons.
Australia’s top player, Minjee Lee, took on Angel Yin in the opening match, one that was wildly entertaining all day, especially on the back nine, where there were few ties on holes. Lee really took control late because of some major mistakes by Yin down the stretch including a lost ball and coming up well short on a par 3. Lee won the last three holes of the match to finish off 2&1.
Hannah Green was taking on Yealimi Noh in the other solo match and started off red hot. Green hit phenomenal shots into the green on the first two holes, but didn’t take advantage because of some missed puts. Her cold putter didn’t last long, as she made four birdies in a row, winning three holes.
Yealimi Noh, who had an incredible semifinal round with 11 birdies in her win over Miyu Yamashita, did make a run, winning holes eight and 10 to get the match to within one. She was never quite able to get over the hump though, never pulling to within even. Green eventually hit the International Crown clinching putt on hole 17.
Stephanie Kyriacou and Grace Kim’s match against the Americans Lauren Coughlin and Lilia Vu didn’t come into play, but it was a phenomenal one and the two Australians did well to stay above water for most of the back nine. Vu and Coughlin were a bit all over the place with their ball striking while Kyriacou and Kim seemed solid and consistent.
The World Team won the third place match over Japan thanks to terrific efforts from Charley Hull and Lydia Ko.
