Few would argue the statement that world No. 11 Ayaka Furue is the most consistent player on the LPGA Tour. It is almost impossible to envision what a bad round from one of the most well-rounded players in the women’s game would look like. We saw it a bit with her +1 73 score on Friday at The Mizuho Americas Classic, which caused her to miss the cut by one stroke.
Furue had four bogeys on her first nine, the back at Liberty National, with no birdies. She tried to rally on her second nine, making four birdies with just one bogey and making birdies on two of her last three holes. It just wasn’t quite enough.
Interestingly, her statistics for the day were still relatively solid. Furue hit fairways and made a lot of putts. It does feel like in the tough conditions, her shorter hitting was a major factor, as one of the most accurate players in the world hit just 10 greens after hitting 14 in the opening round.
This is the first time Furue has missed a cut in an individual event since November 2023 at The Annika. In that time she has racked up eight top-five finishes and 14 top 10s. She also captured her first major championship at The Evian Championship.
