Former Arizona State player Carlota Ciganda has taken the clubhouse lead in her current residence of Arizona, despite the tough conditions at Seville Country Club.
Day three of the Ford Championship has been defined by the extremely windy conditions and relatively high scores. The wind picked up around the noon hour, with gusts close to 40 MPH.
Ciganda got out in just enough time to get some good early scores in, which included an eagle on the par 5 fifth hole and a birdie on the seventh. She also eagled the drivable par 4 16, which is playing well under par on Saturday.
Ciganda hit 13 fairways and 13 greens, both very solid given the conditions, and lowered her putts from 32 on Friday to 26.
Currently Ciganda sits in a tie with Hyo Joo Kim, who still has holes to play, but with the unpredictable elements, that could change in a heartbeat. A win would be Ciganda’s third of her LPGA career, her first since 2016.
