LPGA Tour star Lauren Coughlin and the PGA Tour’s Andrew Novak won the 2025 Grant Thornton Invitational, their first win in this event.
It shouldn’t be much of a surprise, of all the PGA Tour players in the field, Novak was in some of the strongest form of anyone, while Coughlin is known to be a terrific team golf player. Novak was also the winner of the PGA Tour’s team event alongside Ben Griffin earlier this season.
Coughlin and Novak extended their lead in the final round with a -9 score in the modified best ball format. This was just one stroke back of the best score of the day, and was two better than their closest contenders coming into the day, Charley Hull and Michael Brennan.
Predictably, Novak credited his partner for hitting it straight off the tee and giving him opportunities to make some low scores. Novak hit just 52% of his fairways in 2025 while Coughlin hit over 82%. That is eight percentage points higher than the leader on the PGA Tour in driving accuracy.
The duo finished strong with five birdies in the last six holes to slam the door shut and set the tournament scoring record at -28 despite trailing Jennifer Kupcho and Chris Gotterup on the back nine and facing pressure from a charging Nelly Korda and Denny McCarthy team.
Coughlin and Novak are clearly a well-thought out team, with both being exceptional partner players. Expect to see this duo play well in the years to come.
