Yes, on the LPGA Tour fairway woods are used in a variety of ways from Jutanugarn’s blazing tee shots to Brooke Henderson’s habit of using it like a putter with more pop around the greens. The versatility that these clubs show has never been more apparent than on the LPGA Tour.
But, if there is one player who sticks in my mind as a great fairway wood player, it would be Jutanugarn. The pure power she gets is startling, averaging around 260 yds driving distance without even carrying a driver.
The strategy has shown success, as one of the best players of her generation, she hasn’t ever needed that extra power. She’s one two majors and two LPGA Player of the Year Awards using nothing more than a 3-Wood.
No player on the LPGA Tour depends more on a fairway wood than Jutanugarn, and she has shown enough success with it to get this spot.
