It was a big weekend in women’s golf despite no LPGA Tour event, as two hugely accomplished players won events internationally.
Andalucia Costa Del Sol Open de Espana presented by OYSHO:
Spain’s most prominent star Carlota Ciganda won her eighth career Ladies European Tour event with a win in her country’s national open. It was her second time winning the event after her four-stroke victory over Maja Stark in 2021. This time it wasn’t so easy, as Ciganda got the one-stroke victory over Manon De Roey. Ciganda had her worst round of the week on Sunday, starting with bogeys on two of the first three holes. Ciganda recovered well though, with birdies on holes 5 and 7 to finish even par for the front nine. Ciganda started to open up a lead on the back, where her putter caught fire. Ciganda had a birdie on 14 and another on the par 3 17 to give herself the wiggle room she needed, as she bogeyed 18. Ciganda finished -18 to get her first worldwide win of the year.
ISPS Handa Australian Open:
Two-time major champion Jiyai Shin also got her first win of the year in Australia over a stacked leaderboard that included Ashleigh Buhai, Grace Kim, Hannah Green and Minjee Lee. Shin had one of the crazier scorecards you will ever see. Shin started the round going birdie-double bogey-birdie-eagle-birdie. After her round seemingly stabilized with four pars, she came back with an eagle on 10. Her finishing stretch was almost as chaotic as her start, going bogey-birdie-bogey-par-bogey-par. Shin had just eight pars in her -3 70 round, where she won by two strokes over major champion Ashleigh Buhai.
