The suspension of rain in round two of the 2024 Evian Championship certainly didn’t help the two hottest players on the course on Saturday morning.
Ayaka Furue, still in the lead by two strokes, had a par on every hole early Saturday to finish her round at -6 and -12 overall for the tournament. Before the delay she was playing flawless golf, with six birdies and little struggle. Regardless, her game is in strong form with only three missed greens on the week.
Angela Stanford, who was developing into the story of the week, didn’t exactly have the same success coming back on the course. At the time of the horn sounding, Stanford was -5 on her previous four holes, and looked poised to get into contention in what could be her final major. She was sitting at -8 for the tournament, four strokes back. She had a wild morning though, with four bogeys, a birdie and a par. She is now seven back at -5 for the tournament.
Stephanie Kyriacou and Patty Tavatanakit make up the final group today. Patty T was seemingly helped by the delay, playing strong golf down the stretch with birdies on the final two holes. Elsewhere, Nelly Korda ended her missed cut streak and is -1 for the tournament.
