With the news that TGL (TMRW Golf League), the simulator based golf league co-founded by Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods, is going to expand into women’s golf soon, it is time to speculate which players will be breakout stars. Since the format is different, and will include new features like mic’d up access and team golf, there will be some stars who will thrive in this league. Let’s take a look at some of them:
MEGAN KHANG
I think the most obvious candidate to be a huge star on TGL is Megan Khang. Potentially as one of the leaders of a team from Boston, her hometown. Khang has proven herself to be as good at team golf as anyone in the world, men’s or women’s. Khang is 7-3-3 in her Solheim Cup career, and is 6-0-1 in her last two appearances. Khang is also probably the best interview on the tour and wears her emotions and her energy on her sleeve at all times.
CHARLEY HULL
Like Khang, Hull is a great team golf player, with a 15-9-3 record in the Solheim Cup. Hull is also already one of the most popular players on tour, and undoubtedly will continue to be when TGL takes over. The format should help Hull’s play also, as she is known to despise slow play probably more than anyone in golf. Here, that shouldn’t be much of an issue.
JESSICA KORDA
This is pure speculation, but something like TGL could be a great way for a player like Jessica Korda to get back into the game. Korda hasn’t played since early 2023, being kept out with injury and her pregnancy. She has been out working on her game, a less physically taxing and lower time consuming league could work for one of the tour’s biggest names. Korda is still a star, has the personality to work in this format and has shown interest already in the league, having attended one of the matches.
LEXI THOMPSON
Like Korda, the scheduling of these events should be appealing to Thompson. Thompson is still one of the biggest stars in the women’s golf world, yet retired from full-time play in 2024. She still will play some events, so it is clear she doesn’t want to be gone completely, and this would be a huge get for TGL. If this league is a chance to see a 21st century LPGA icon play more, that should draw some eyeballs and fans in the stands.
ANGEL YIN
Like Megan Khang, Angel Yin is a massive personality, and one with some serious game as the past few months have shown us. Yin seemingly has a fantastic future as a broadcaster, why not get her on the mic early right now. Yin is the funniest player on tour and will likely be must see television both for her golf game and her banter.
