Australian Grace Kim, looking for the second win of her young LPGA Tour career, has opened up a five-stroke lead at the Meijer LPGA Classic.

Kim was only one stroke ahead of Ally Ewing when the final pairing left the 14 green, that’s when the two went in opposite directions. Kim birdied two of her last four holes, while Ewing bogeyed two of the last four, with some bad missed putts.

Kim had seven birdies, with one sloppy bogey on the par 5 10, a hole that Ewing also bogeyed. In Kim’s -6 round she hit 17 greens and found a hot putter on the back nine. Ball-strikers usually are in paradise at Blythefield Country Club, and Kim is hitting it better than anyone, with only six missed greens all week.

Ewing’s disappointing -1 round putts her in a large group tied for second, along with major champions Lexi Thompson, Anna Nordqvist and Allisen Corpuz, with Narin An as well.

While Kim has a commanding lead, her weekend play at Wilshire Country Club, where she was well ahead of the field and shot 76-77 to finish in a tie for 25th.
