While Nelly Korda is the story of women’s golf right now, she’s overshadowing another incredible season by one of her competitors, Hannah Green.
Green finished runner-up at the Mizuho Americas Open this week, losing by one stroke to No. 1 Korda. Green had the lead at points during the final round, and if she could have prevailed, it would have been her third win of the season.
It isn’t that Green wasn’t a prominent player on the tour previously. She won her first major at the 2019 KPMG Women’s PGA, her second season on tour. She backed that up by winning the Portland Classic a few months later and appeared to be one of the fastest rising stars on the LPGA Tour.
She went without wins in 2020-2022, but had good results with nine top-10 finishes in the 2022 season. She then won at Wilshire Country Club in 2023 to break that winless streak.
2024 has seen Green return to the form we expected out of her when she burst onto the scene. She has two wins, plus the runner-up finish this week. She is second in the CME Standings, Player of the Year Rankings and scoring average. She has already risen 20 spots in the Rolex Rankings, and is set to make her second Olympic appearance.
Hannah Green’s star moment has finally come, and she doesn’t show any signs of slowing down soon.
