Hannah Green, who will soon be on her way to Paris to represent Australia in the Olympics, is back in contention at the CPKC Women’s Open.
Green is battling a crowded leaderboard in Calgary, one that includes many of the best players in the world in the top 10, but none of them have as much recent success.
Green already has two wins this season, one in Los Angeles and one in Singapore. Because of this, she has risen into the top six in the Rolex Rankings and sits at No. 3 in the CME Standings. In addition to her two wins, she was also a runner up in New York at the Mizuho Americas Open. If not for Nelly Korda, Green would be the story of the LPGA Tour season.
The major champion made three bogeys on Friday, but cancelled those out with her five made birdies. Green has actually struggled heavily with her ball striking, particularly off the tee this week so far. She has hit only 10/28 fairways so far, but has hit 12 greens each day.
On and around the greens, she has been excellent. Green has had just 55 putts on 36 holes, saving par out of the sand 4/5 times.
Heading into the Olympic games, it would feel like a big win for Green, who is generally a strong momentum player. She currently sits just one stroke back of leader Lauren Coughlin at -5.
