One of the biggest shocks of the first day at the Paris Olympics, was the poor play of stars Brooke Henderson of Canada and Hannah Green of Australia. Now, with the leaderboard tightening up, they are both in range of reaching the medal stand.
Green, No. 6 in the world shot +5 with no birdies in the opening round, but recovered nicely with a -2 70 in round two. After a bad start to her third round, Green went on a terrific back nine run. The exclamation point of her -6 30 was hitting in for an eagle on the tough 17 hole. Overall on the round she shot a 66 to get to -3 for the tournament. She currently sits four off the lead.
Henderson shot 74, 73 on the first two rounds to settle in at +3 and well out of contention heading into today. Yet, she had a bogey-free, -5 round to get to -2 for the tournament, five shots off the lead. Henderson is no newcomer to come-from-behind wins, as evidenced by her second major title at Evian.
Scoring was supposed to be at its most difficult today, and for the leaders that has been the case. With still a few holes to play, the lead has come down from -8 to -7, and nobody in the final group is separating themselves. This has resulted in a potentially super tight leaderboard on Sunday.
