After one round in Thailand, a strong leaderboard has developed behind leader Peiyun Chien.
Chien, from Taiwan, is looking for her first career win and is off to a smashing start shooting -8 to open up a two-stroke lead. Chien hit 12 fairways and had only 24 putts.
Chien will have to contend with a leaderboard full of LPGA stars in order to get her first win.
Two strokes behind is major champion Sei Young Kim. The 12-time LPGA Tour winner hasn’t hoisted a trophy since 2020, but nobody in the world has a better ability to go low than Kim.
In third place at -5 is a large group headlined by Hyo Joo Kim, Madelene Sagström, Ayaka Furue, Brooke Henderson and Patty Tavatanakit.
Sagström (above) in particular had a strong finish, going -4 on her last six holes to vault herself into contention, including an eagle on the par 5 18th. Sagström hit 11 fairways, drove the ball long and hit 15 greens. She didn’t have more than a par all day.
The second round will begin on Golf Channel at 10:00 est tonight.
