At the 2015 U.S. Women’s Open held at Lancaster Country Club, the host of the 2024 edition, 17-year-old Megan Khang finished as the low amateur. It was an impressive amateur field too, including Haeran Ryu, Jennifer Kupcho and Allisen Corpuz. She turned professional the next year, kick-starting one of the more interesting LPGA Tour career paths.

Khang has been a terrific player on the LPGA Tour in her eight seasons. She has 38 career top-10 finishes, five top three finishes and one win. She’s played in three Solheim Cups, with a 4-3-3 record across those competitions. Before her 2023 win at the CPKC Women’s Open, she was almost unanimously considered the best player on tour without a win.

The momentum seems to be heading in her direction to capture her first-career major title.

Khang has been a really solid player in majors. She has 10 career top 10s, including six since 2021. She had three top 10s last season. The U.S. Women’s Open traditionally has suited her better than any of the five majors, with four top 10s and two top fives over her career.

The time would be better than ever to win her first major championship. Currently, with only a few tournaments left in qualifying time, she sits at No. 15 in the Rolex Rankings. She is the fourth highest ranked American in the Olympic standings and needs to at least hold her position. A win here would almost guarantee her spot on the team.

When Khang won low amateur at Lancaster Country Club, finishing in 35th place, it was her first made cut in a major. Now, with her career seemingly peaking, it would be fitting for her to get her first win at a major.
