In the second round of the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions, A Lim Kim has held strong in the lead at Lake Nona Golf and Country Club, but world No. 1 Nelly Korda is lurking.
Nelly Korda, on a course she has won before, came into the day six-strokes back of A Lim Kim’s lead, but she has closed that gap to four after a -5 round and currently sits in a tie for third place.
Korda started slow, with pars on the first three holes and a bogey on her fourth hole, the par 3 13. She kicked it into gear at that point though, with birdies on 14, 15 and 18. She added three more birdies without any bogeys on her back nine.
Korda had a very typical Nelly round, hitting the ball long, usually placing it well and chipping well when she was out of position. She hit 14 greens and had 30 putts, an improvement on round one. When Korda can get through a round with 30 or less putts, she should be in good position.
Major champion A Lim Kim held strong after a phenomenal -7 first round, shooting a -3 69.
Kim had six birdies with three bogeys on the round. She didn’t look flawless, but she did enough to still hold a comfortable lead. Kim once again hit 12 fairways and had 14 hit greens. Her putting numbers were a bit lower than in round one, hitting 29 putts compared to her first round 27.
Linn Grant sits at second, three shots behind Kim and one stroke ahead of Korda, Leona Maguire and Rio Takeda, the only rookie in the field.
