“Maybe I’ll just leave her stuff outside the door today and be like find yourself a new place.” Said Nelly Korda (in jest) of Megan Khang heading into the final round of the Drive On Championship.
With the tournament taking place in Korda’s hometown Bradenton, Fla., her closest friend on tour is naturally staying at her house this week. What neither probably expected was to be in the final group on Sunday, battling for a win against each other.
Korda has a four-stroke lead over a host of challengers, including Khang, Ayaka Furue and Lydia Ko. While four strokes is a tall mountain to climb, the quality of the players behind her makes it far from a sure thing.
Furue has gotten off to a tremendous start this year, with a T4 last week at The Tournament of Champions and obviously in contention this week. Khang and Furue are both among the best players with only one win, as well as the best without a major. Korda on the other hand is seeking her ninth career win in her still young LPGA career.
Lydia Ko has perhaps the most intriguing potential storyline of the week. If she can pull off the comeback, she will gain membership in the LPGA Hall of Fame. If that isn’t incentive to watch, then I don’t know what is.
The final round of the Drive On Championship will air on Golf Channel and Peacock starting at 2:00 est.
