What a story Lauren Coughlin has been on the LPGA Tour this season. The 31-year-old journey woman had only three career top-10 finishes on tour coming into 2024 and no wins. Now, she is seeking her second win in the last three events, and a seventh top-10 on the season. She leads by one in the Scottish Open at Dundonald Links through three rounds.
Coughlin had a clean scorecard today, carding six birdies without any bogeys or worse. Three on the front side, three on the back. She kept hitting fairways, going 12-14 on Saturday, her third day in a row hitting at least 12 fairways.
Coughlin, who is essentially a lock to play in her first-career Solheim Cup, played with Esther Henseleit today, a player who will likely be an opponent in mid-September. They had a bit of a match play feel going to their round.
Before a missed short putt led to a bogey slip up for Henseleit on 16, she seemed poised to break out of the log jam on the leaderboard. Henseleit made five birdies and an eagle on the first 14 holes. She sits three back, seeking her first LPGA Tour victory after winning silver in Paris.
Between them, sitting one back, is Megan Khang. Like Coughlin, Khang is essentially a lock to be on the Solheim Cup team, making her fourth appearance. She is also a one-time winner on tour looking for a second, and like Coughlin, she won her first in Canada.
It should be an exciting finish between three great players looking to further cement their standings as stars on the LPGA Tour.
