Two multiple-time major champions, Minjee Lee and Brooke Henderson, had strong second rounds at the CPKC Women’s Open, getting them firmly into contention.

Lee, who is ranked No. 4 in the Rolex Rankings and No. 2 in the CME Standings, had a solid first round, shooting -2 and placing her five back of the lead. She was much better in round two, shooting -4 to get her into second place at the end of the morning wave.

Lee’s lone bogey of the day came on the final hole, but she was flawless otherwise, making five birdies and 12 pars. She hit 14 greens, and that much improved putter came through with only 28 for the round.

With a win, Lee would become the first two-time winner on Tour this season and become the front-runner for LPGA Tour Player of the Year. Her first win of the season was her third major title at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.

Home country favorite Brooke Henderson was also phenomenal Friday after a bit of a disappointing first round. While Henderson has struggled this season, she has shown some progress over the last couple weeks.

After an even par first round, Henderson made six birdies with just one bogey in the second, bringing her total to -5, four back of leader Akie Iwai. Henderson had a well-rounded performance, hitting 12/14 fairways, 15 greens and needing just 28 putts. The putter feels like a major x-factor for Henderson, who has been inconsistent at the wrong times on the greens in 2025.

The afternoon wave is still on the course, but for now both Henderson and Lee are firmly in contention going into the weekend.
