Coming into the final round of the U.S. Senior Women’s Open, it is likely American Leta Lindley didn’t think she had a great chance of winning. She was sitting five strokes back of 54-hole leader Kaori Yamamoto who had dominated the entire championship. But, sometimes it is just your day on the golf course.

Lindley shot a championship final round record -7 64 at Fox Chapel Country Club in Pittsburgh. She was flawless for the day, with seven birdies and no bogeys, a near impossible feat for any USGA event, especially on a Sunday.

As would be easy to predict, statistically Lindley lapped the field. The impossible to beat combination of hitting all 18 greens and leading the field in putting for the round sealed her victory by two strokes.

Yamamoto didn’t play bad necessarily in this final round, she shot an even par 71, but nothing could have prepared anyone for a performance like Lindley gave.

Annika Sörenstam came in fourth place, while Juli Inkster came in sixth. Defending champion Trish Johnson came in 13th place.
