Ahead of playing in her 18th consecutive U.S. Women’s Open, Lexi Thompson has announced that 2024 will be her last season on the LPGA Tour.

Thompson, one of the most prominent American players in the history of women’s golf, will be ending her LPGA Tour career at only 29-years-old as announced by the LPGA Tour account on Twitter this morning.

As of the moment, Thompson has 11 wins on the LPGA Tour, including a major title at Mission Hills in 2014. Thompson has 19 total top-10 finishes in majors over her career.

While Thompson’s career got started young and fast, appearing in her first major championship at only 12-years-old, it has slowed as of late. Thompson’s last LPGA Tour win came in 2019 at the Shoprite LPGA Classic, and she has fallen to No. 54 in the Rolex Rankings.

While her career has slowed, her impact has been pretty obvious. She brought a level of power to the LPGA Tour that had never previously been seen.

Thompson has played on six Solheim Cup teams, four International Crown teams and has represented the United States at the last two Olympic Games. She played in a PGA Tour event in 2023 and along with Rose Zhang was the first LPGA Tour player to take part in The Match in 2024.

UPDATE: Lexi Thompson posted a series of videos on her Instagram, including the statement: “I’m looking forward to the next chapter of my life. Time with family, friends, and my trusted companion Leo. I will always look for ways to contribute to the sport and inspire the next generation of golfers. And of course, I look forward to a little time for myself.”
