The No. 2 ranked player in the world, two-time major champion Lilia Vu has become the second official member of the 2024 United States Solheim Cup team.
Vu joins No. 1 Nelly Korda on the team that is trying to defeat Europe for the first time since 2017. It will be Vu’s second appearance in the Solheim Cup, after making her debut in 2023. Vu had a disappointing first Solheim appearance, going 1-3, winning only her singles match against Madelene Sagström. In the International Crown though, Vu performed much better going 3-1.
In the qualifying period, the 26-year-old California native has won two majors, the 2023 Chevron Championship and the 2023 AIG Women’s Open, and five tournaments overall. This year, she won her first event coming off of an injury that kept her out for a month, taking the title at the Meijer LPGA Classic in a playoff.
Like Korda, Vu’s spot on the team was never in doubt. Her resumé over the last two seasons speaks for itself. Vu isn’t always the most consistent player, but she knows how to win. With the top two players in the world at the moment, the United States will once again likely hold the advantage on paper.
The Solheim Cup will be played from Sept. 13-15 at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, near Washington D.C.
