After a brilliant second round at the Ford Championship, Lilia Vu has emerged with the lead over a stacked leaderboard of LPGA Tour superstars.
Vu played solid Thursday, shooting a -6 66 with no bogeys. She predictably did it with accurate hitting and elite putting. She hit 12 fairways and only needed 24 putts. Friday, her round was in another gear.
While the winds were up Friday, the course played softer because of the overcast skies, giving some slight advantages to the afternoon competitors. While Vu wasn’t as strong off the tee Friday, she was much better on approach, hitting 16 greens in regulation compared to 12 on Thursday. Vu has not yet had a bogey this week. She had eight birdies Friday, shooting 64, tied for the second best round of the week.
This is the first start in the United States for the two-time major winner, who despite missing significant time in 2024 due to injury, is still ranked No. 6 in the world, and is among the best in the world while at full health. While she says she is still focusing on feeling as little pain as possible, she looks to be at complete strength now, but has the top two players in the world, Nelly Korda and Jeeno Thitikul just behind her.
