Lizette Salas, still in the midst of recovering from a back injury that caused her to miss most of 2023, shot the best score of the afternoon wave with a -5 67.

The group in the afternoon at the Meijer LPGA Classic had to deal with heavy winds and overall difficult conditions, causing much higher scores than in the morning. Still, Salas sits at -5 in second place.

As is the usual for Salas, her putter carried her quite well. She had only 26 putts for the round, while missing just three fairways and hitting 13 greens. She birdied both of the front nine par 5s, and had no bogeys.

Salas, the two-time LPGA Tour winner, hasn’t had a top-10 finish since March of 2022, and missed every tournament from the first week of July until the end of the season in 2023. This season, she has had some positive moments, but none that have shown the form we are used to seeing from her like this.

She currently sits just two strokes back of Lee, and should see the easier wave on Friday, looking for her third-career victory and second in the state of Michigan.
