Being just a little over halfway through the 2025 LPGA Tour season, let’s take a look back at all 18 tournaments competed this year, finally with the top three tournaments of the season so far.
No. 3 – Dow Championship – The Dow Championship is always one of the best events of the year, even when it doesn’t have a thrilling finish. The format of players partnering up always brings a lighter, more fun energy to the week. This year, it was fantastic, with Lexi Thompson and Megan Khang, two fan favorites on tour, put together a final round rally to force a playoff with Somi Lee and Jin Hee Im, two of the best players without a win at the time. In the playoff, Thompson hit a great shot to set up a great chance at birdie. With Lee and Im already in with a great birdie of their own, Khang missed the putt in heartbreaking fashion. This event was as fun as always, but with some great drama down the stretch as well.
No. 2 – Chevron Championship – This is still the most debated and polarizing event of the season, and the debate is somewhat fair to have. There was a lot of bad golf down the stretch here, which is what set up a thrilling five-way playoff. In that playoff, Mao Saigo outlasted everyone else who made mistakes, making birdie to win. There was some ugliness here, including some questionable decisions to stretch the rules, but this tournament gave the type of drama and finish that only golf can provide, and while it wasn’t always the best showcase of the terrific players on this tour, it was impossible to turn away from.
No. 1 – Evian Championship – If this is topped this season, then we will be seeing one of the greatest events in the history of golf, because it would seem impossible to get better than the fourth major of the year. Grace Kim was incredibly -7 on her last six holes of the event including the playoff. She pulled off some of the greatest shots of all time, hitting a perfect fairway wood which set up a tap in for eagle. In the first playoff hole, she recovered from hitting into the water, making a chip-in birdie to force a second playoff hole with Jeeno Thitikul. In that playoff, Kim made another eagle to take the win.
