After a tough final round from the leading Arkansas Razorbacks, the No. 22 LSU Tigers got a big win at the Darius Rucker Invitational in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
It took a tie breaker for the Tigers to take the title, as they had to go to a dropped scores playoff with No. 5, tournament host, South Carolina. LSU needed a huge comeback in the final round, shooting easily the lowest score of the day at +2 for the round as a team.
LSU was led by the No. 3 finishing individuals, Josefin Widal and star Áine Donegan, who shot even par for the three rounds on a course that was playing relatively difficult throughout the week. Rocío Tejedo, the No. 31 amateur in the world, also joined the top 20, finishing in 17th place.
The leaders for most of the event, No. 2 Arkansas, struggled on the final day, shooting +10, the worst final round score of any team in the top five. All four counting scores were over par, though Kendall Todd, who shot +1, continued to be the most solid player on the team. Despite Arkansas’ troubles, she finished tied for low medalist with South Carolina’s Louise Rydqvist.
