New Zealand’s Lydia Ko is still the only golfer, men’s or women’s, who has won two Olympic medals, a silver in Rio and a bronze in Tokyo. She may just get a third in Paris this weekend.
Ko shot a -5 67 in the second round after her even par opening 18. She had six birdies, four of which came on the front nine, and only one bogey. She mostly kept it out of trouble off the tee, which is the big variable for Ko. Her major slip up came on 18, her only over par score of the day, where she had a wayward tee shot.
Ko hit 11 fairways and 14 greens, and unsurprisingly led the field in strokes gained around the green. Her putting was spectacular too, she was fourth in the field in putting at the time of her round’s end.
When she signed the scorecard, she was tied in the silver medal position with No. 1 Nelly Korda, who still has plenty of golf to play. They sit three strokes back of leader Morgane Metraux who is at -8. With a gold medal, Ko would clinch a spot in the LPGA Hall of Fame.
