Lydia Ko, needing one more point to qualify for the LPGA Hall of Fame, got off to a good start on Thursday at the Chevron Championship.

Ko has had a terrific start to the 2024 season, with three top-five finishes including one win. She is currently No. 2 in the CME Standings and has returned to the form we are used to seeing her in. The two-time major winner is looking for another victory at this event, which she won in 2016 at only 19-years-old.

Ko shot a -3 69 on Thursday, good enough to be currently in fourth place. Of the top of the leaderboard, she has easily the most experience and will likely be toward the top regardless of what happens with the tougher afternoon wave.

Ko had four birdies with one bogey on the round, playing in a group that had a tough time gaining any momentum. She bogeyed her second hole of the day but recovered strong. She hit 12/14 fairways, something to keep in mind with her sometimes erratic driver. She also hit 14 greens in regulation, so her ball striking was on point.

Prior to the tournament, I had Ko pegged as a legitimate threat to win. With a leaderboard that was pretty unpredictable, it is no surprise Ko is performing well.
