While Mel Reid was a presence on the Golf Channel U.S. Open coverage in 2023, her stardom has really taken off at Lancaster Country Club in 2024.
Reid, a six-time LET winner and LPGA champion who has represented Europe at the Solheim Cup four times, isn’t in the field at the 2024 U.S. Women’s Open, but that hasn’t stopped her from making a mark on the tournament.
Reid has been a part of the Golf Channel “Live From the U.S. Women’s Open” show this week, and has thrived as a hole analyst. Reid has been breaking down the toughest, and most talked about holes on the course throughout the week, to near unanimous praise.
Starting with her breakdown of the instantly iconic 12th hole, which brought the greatest player in the world Nelly Korda to her knees, Reid’s breakdowns have been going viral through the golf Twitter space.
Reid has effortless charisma, great stats, an ability to improvise and obvious deep knowledge when she is out on the holes. It should be no surprise to LPGA fans that Reid has charisma, but there are so many more qualities to a great broadcaster that Reid possesses. She is adding legitimate knowledge about the course to everyone that watches, which should be the goal of these preview/recap shows.
Reid is still a full-time player on the LPGA Tour, and later this year will be an assistant captain for Europe at the Solheim Cup. When her professional golf career comes to an end, she should get a quick call from golf broadcast partners as an addition to their teams.
