Minjee Lee has jumped out to a lead at the Scottish Open following a terrific first round and great second. But she isn’t the only star in good form at Dundonald Links.
Just two strokes back of Lee and finished with their second rounds are Charley Hull and Lauren Coughlin. Hull, who hasn’t been great in early rounds this season is looking for her first LPGA Tour win of the year, while Coughlin is trying to continue her momentum over the last month.
Lee shot -5 in the first round afternoon that was expected to yield lower scores than the morning. That didn’t really hold up though as the scores ended up being pretty even despite the rainy and wet early conditions. Lee followed up that strong play by shooting -3 in the second round.
Lee has played relatively clean golf so far this week, with nine birdies and only one bogey. She has putted well, always one of the keys at Dundonald, particularly in the opening round where she had just 26 strokes with the flat stick. In round two Lee was characteristically strong with her ball striking, hitting 12 fairways and 14 greens.
Hull hasn’t had quite as clean of a round, but that makes sense for one of the tour’s more aggressive players. The Englishwoman has hit 31 greens so far, leading to her nine birdies and an eagle on 18 Friday. She has also had five bogeys though.
Coughlin, probably the LPGA Tour breakout of the year, is playing smart golf, hitting 25/28 fairways, impressive in the wind. She’s making putts as well with just 54 over two rounds. She’s only made two bogeys.
The afternoon wave is just now beginning their rounds, but the winds are up and making scoring difficult.
