Though Moriya Jutanugarn needed a final round comeback in Portland, she still played one of the most flawless weeks of golf on tour this season, giving her a third win in her career.
Jutanugarn dominated all facets of the game at the 2024 Portland Classic. She was precise off the tee, hitting 50/56 fairways. She was solid on approach, hitting 59/72 greens. Her putter didn’t hold her back either, despite having some higher numbers early in the week, she cleaned it up on the weekend with just 51 putts in the final two rounds.
Jutanugarn didn’t bogey a single hole until the 72nd of the tournament, which didn’t really didn’t matter much for her winning chances. She was consistent throughout the week in route to a -22 score, shooting in the 60s all four days.
Narin An, Nataliya Guseva and Angel Yin tied for second. An flipping the script from her usual trajectory by playing well in the final round, moving her way up the leaderboard.
Angel Yin likely helped her Solheim Cup prospects greatly with this performance. She currently ranks No. 12 in the standings, but should have a chance at moving up here. Yin is known to be a strong chemistry piece for the United States team, and has a very respectable 5-3-1 record in the event.
For Jutanugarn, this was her third win and second individual victory. She won the Dow team event along with her sister Ariya in 2021 and the LA Open in 2018. For awhile I think some have thought of her career as a bit of a letdown, but with this win I don’t think that can be said anymore.
