World No. 1 Nelly Korda has become the first player for either team Europe or USA to mathematically clinch a spot in the Solheim Cup.
Now, of course, Korda was in no danger of ever missing the team. She has six wins in 2024 with a major title already, and also had eight top-10 finishes in 2023, which was also in the qualifying period.
Korda has accumulated 2,604 points for the 2024 Solheim Cup. For reference, Lilia Vu who is No. 2 in the standings, has 1,467 points, while the last currently qualifying player, Lauren Coughlin, has 882.
This will be the fourth Solheim Cup appearance for Korda, who despite never having been on a winning team, has performed well in the event in the past. Her career record is 7-4-1 and has never had a losing record in a singular Solheim Cup. She also excelled in the T-Mobile Match Play in 2024, lapping the field, including the best Solheim Cup Europe performer, Leona Maguire.
Don’t expect other players to clinch the team anytime soon, as Korda’s incredible success has given her a significant lead over anyone else.
